Key Design Features

The design of the new K-7 and I-70 Interchange will involve:

  • Adding through lanes on K-7 and I-70 to carry the traffic volumes expected in the future.
  • Adding collector/distributor roads between the interchanges at Kansas Avenue, I-70, and 130th Street.
  • Using the collector/distributor roads to connect the three interchanges.  For example, northbound traffic on K-7 will use the same exit to get to westbound I-70 and 130th Street.  All collector/distributor roads will operate without traffic signals.
  • Determining whether the interchange is an appropriate location for a park-and-ride.

As the design process moves forward, KDOT and the study team will analyze the way in which the on- and off-ramps, nearby collector/distributor roads, and through lanes coordinate.  The high volumes of future traffic will be accommodated so that motorists can safely and easily navigate from K-7 to I-70 and back again, or access local roads like 130th Street and Kansas Avenue.
